Credit Counseling and Financial Management

Learning about Credit Counseling and Financial Management is an important step in the bankruptcy process. Under the 2005 Bankruptcy Reform Act, every person must complete a Credit Counseling Course before filing bankruptcy. We have teamed up with Dave Ramsey to make this an easy and educational process. Here are the steps for online completion:

  1. Go to
  2. Click on Bankruptcy Certifications
  3. Select Before Bankruptcy
  4. Select North Carolina then click Submit
  5. Click on I Agree at the bottom of the screen
  6. Click on Continue to Counseling (You may view the the worksheet before starting the credit counseling session. It is not required, but you may find it helpful.)
  7. After selecting Continue to Counseling, click on Start the Counseling
  8. Click on Start a New Counseling Session and follow the prompts to complete the session

When you complete the session, we will be able to access your certificates which we will file with the court at the same time that your Bankruptcy is filed.

Once your case has been filed, you must complete a Financial Management Course. Again, we have teamed with Dave Ramsey for easy, online completion:

  1. Go to
  2. Click on Bankruptcy Certifications
  3. Select After Bankruptcy
  4. Select North Carolina
  5. Read, then click I AGREE
  6. Select Start the Education
  7. Follow the steps which will take you through the test and to the end of the course

If your case involves joint debtors, each debtor must complete the test. Your prompt completion is appreciated as this is required by law before receiving a discharge (forgiveness) of a debt in a bankruptcy proceeding.

While watching the video online, have pen and paper ready for video number and code words. These will be needed as you complete the course. You will also need your case number and your district.

Note: The fee for each of these courses is included with your attorney fee.
